Greeneville Middle School is a school of approximately 670 students in grades six, seven, and eight. We are a Southern Association Accredited school located in Greeneville, Tennessee, which is 70 miles northeast of Knoxville. GMS is the only middle school in the Greeneville City School system. In 1999-2000 we were recognized as the statewide winner of the TSBA Parent Involvement Award , which recognized outstanding parent involvement in our school. In 2002 our School Board was recognized as Tennessee School Boards Association's "School Board of the Year". During the 2003-2004 school year, we won the honor of being an Intel/Scholastic School of Distinction in the category of Technology Excellence. GMS also joined America's Promise by becoming a School of Promise. We offer students a variety of academic activities. Each grade level has several instructional teams and a related arts team. These teams share the duties of instruction in the core subjects of math, language arts, science, and social studies. We also offer a wide range of related arts instruction in art, music/chorus, band, Spanish, physical education/wellness, Latin, and the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art diversified technology lab. In addition to the regular school day instruction, we offer tutoring before and after school Monday-Thursday and Saturday School. Our school strives to reflect our commitment to meeting the academic, cultural, physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of our students. In order to achieve this, we offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities for our students. These include such things as a service learning club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, book club, student council, Teens of Faith, Media Club, knitting club, Girls on Track, small ensemble and honors choir and WGMS student news. We participate in the Middle Eight Athletic Conference, which gives our students the opportunity to participate in many different athletic activities including cheerleading, football, cross country, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, wrestling, golf, track, softball, and baseball. We also believe that parent-teacher communication and strong community relationships are essential in the educational process of our students. GMS has SchoolCast for communication of all school events and important information via phone and email, teacher web pages, and Parent Connect (so that parents can view grades weekly). We welcome your comments, questions, and concerns as we work together to do what is best for your child at Greeneville Middle School.
