Home Activities & Learning Suggestions During School Closure

1.  Membean - Students can continue to develop and practice vocabulary as they have done in ELA classes this year.  This access is via LaunchPad on GMS website.  Students have their own accounts for this program.
2.  IXL -  This program is wonderful!  It offers practice on all state standards regarding all subject areas in all grade levels.  Its access is also via LauchPad on the GMS website.  Students have their own accounts for this program.  It is also being offered free of charge on its own site at this time - if what I have read is accurate.
3.  I have shared numerous links and activities on my FaceBook page.  You can find me under my name, Marty Seaton.  There are lots of free virtual tours, zoo & aquarium visits, animal cams, concerts, art sites, physical movement & P.E. suggestions, and lots more.  If you cannot access my FaceBook page, you can search for these things on the internet.  Many places are allowing the public free access during this time of self-quarantine and school closures.
4.  Reading - One of the best things we all can do to increase our vocabularies and academic skills is to read.  Students can read aloud to someone or quietly/independently.  Discussions about what was read will increase comprehension skills.
5.  We are experiencing unprecedented times.  Our children will be primary sources in the future regarding they have survived in our community and world.  Please encourage your child to write or journal their feelings, what they've learned in the news, and their perspective of all their experiences.  The journaling also helps with writing and written expression practice.
6.  While we are doing our best of social distancing, please encourage your children to enjoy the pretty weather when we have it.  Explore nature in your own backyards:  leaf collections, rock collections, bird identifications, nature crafts, and making pictures outside are all enjoyable.
7.  Read my page of Leader in Me Review.  Help your child to be intentional about incorporating these habits into your lives and relationships.  GMS has incorporated Leader in Me habits and philosophy throughout this school year.  We have seen some positive character growth in our students.  These can provide some structure to time of balancing academics and relaxation at home during this time of school closure.

Above all else...stay well and safe.  I miss your children in classes and the hallways.  I enjoy their points of view and stories.  Thank you for the opportunity to teach, love, and serve them.
